Use Radar for short (0 to 30m) targets where the feature is sharp and not diffuse. It works well for clear boundaries and distinct objects like pipes or voids or similar

Imaging River Bed structure

Imaging deep river bed Structure

The radar antenna was dragged across the surface of the old river channel, The scans pick up structure in the banks iof the river to the left and right. The scans also pickup the base of the the old channel . This shows up as the "bowl shaped" reflector near the base of the image. There is structure within the river channel, probably silt banks and old shoals and deeper erosion deposits

Typical applications are:
Geotechnical Investigations
Structural Engineering
Forensic Investigations
Failure and Defect Analysis
Exploration Geology
Archaeology
Road Pavement Investigations
Airport Pavement Investigations
Cavity and Void Mapping
Mine Safety
Treasure Location

Benefits of Ground Radar

Rapid collection of data.
It can give a picture of the structure where many other methods just give a "beep".
In many cases the feature of interest is obvious on the screen or printout. This means easier to use results.
It is a recognised method that, when applied by professionals gives reliable and reproducible results.
It will detect a range of targets including metals, plastics, ceramics and others whereas other methods typically will only see metallic objects or may only detect one feature.
Examples of Radar Images
GPR Surveys Central Queensland:
Sometimes it's challenging to get good data, it was raining, we needed to finish the job. The Sir 10 was loaded into a plastic wheelbarrow, the umbrella rigged with rope stays to hold it upright, it even had to be tacked against the wind.
